Akosua Manu, a former NPP parliamentary candidate for Adentan, has called for the removal of Kumasi Mayor Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi. This follows his recent threat to physically assault traders on city pavements.
On Channel One TV on April 16, Manu condemned the Mayor’s comments. She described them as reckless and undemocratic. She believes they pose a threat to public order.
“It’s shocking that someone in leadership can threaten physical assault,” she said. “Even more disturbing is that he stood by those comments when questioned.”
Manu argued that the Mayor's behavior promotes violence and undermines good governance. She feels the President should have intervened already.
“He should have been the shortest-serving appointee in this government,” she stated. “The President should have asked for his removal after those comments.”
She emphasized that such conduct is dangerous in a democratic country. Manu expressed disappointment that the Mayor has not faced any consequences.
“If this were under President Nana Akufo-Addo, he would have been replaced immediately,” she noted. “There is no excuse for repeating such harmful statements.”
Manu warned that failing to act sets a poor precedent. It risks encouraging other leaders to use similar authoritarian tactics.
