Ghana’s Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, made serious accusations. He claimed the previous Akufo-Addo administration neglected the presidential jet. As a result, it is now in an unserviceable condition.
On Friday, May 23, he shared a statement on Facebook. He noted that the aircraft's fuel tank is corroded. The jet has been grounded abroad for extensive maintenance and repair.
His comments were a response to claims from some New Patriotic Party (NPP) members. They alleged that Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang chartered a private jet. She had returned to Ghana from the UK on Thursday, May 22, after medical leave.
Dr. Boamah rejected these criticisms outright. He shifted the focus to the state of the official presidential aircraft.
He stated, “Let the NPP know this.” He referred to their recent electoral defeats in both Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
Dr. Boamah continued by saying that Akufo-Addo’s administration ran down the presidential jet. He highlighted that its fuel tank is even corroded.
He explained that the aircraft has been in "the hospital" abroad for repairs. It may take three months of maintenance before it is usable again.
To emphasize his point, he concluded with a strong statement: “The Presidential jet is unfit for use presently.”
