Former President Nana Akufo-Addo supports President John Dramani Mahama’s declaration. July 1, 2025, will be a National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving. Akufo-Addo calls it a “worthwhile initiative” for unity and peace.
He praised the planning committee during their visit to his home. He emphasized its potential to unite Ghanaians across religious and political lines.
“All of us have to support this initiative,” he said. “It is clearly worthwhile for us to come together.” He urged everyone to give thanks for the blessings received.
Akufo-Addo noted Ghana's political stability despite its history of military interventions. He pointed out that Ghana is one of the few African countries without civil conflict.
Although he will be abroad on July 1 due to prior commitments, he pledged his moral support for the program.
Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, chairman of the planning committee, thanked Akufo-Addo for his endorsement. He said, “He welcomed us and endorsed the whole program.” Ankrah expressed gratitude for the former President's commendation.
The National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving aims to unite Ghanaians from all faiths and backgrounds. It will be a nationwide act of reflection and gratitude.
