Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo supports President John Dramani Mahama's decision. Mahama declared July 1st a National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving. Akufo-Addo calls the initiative timely and unifying.
The day encourages Ghanaians of all faiths to come together. It is set for gratitude and reflection. The first observance will be on July 1, 2025.
During a visit from the planning committee, Akufo-Addo praised the move. He believes it strengthens national unity and promotes peace.
“All of us have to support this initiative,” he said. “It is clearly worthwhile for us to give thanks.”
Akufo-Addo reflected on Ghana’s political history. He noted that despite coups, Ghana has remained peaceful. Other regions have faced civil conflict.
He emphasized that initiatives like this deepen unity and gratitude.
Although Akufo-Addo will be out of the country on that day, he pledged his moral support.
Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, chairman of the planning committee, expressed gratitude for his endorsement.
“He welcomed us and thanked the President for this great initiative,” Ankrah said.
