Former Roads and Highways Minister Francis Asenso-Boakye has refuted claims by his successor, Kwame Governs Agbodza, that the Akufo-Addo administration constructed only 673 kilometres of new roads during its tenure.

Speaking in Parliament on January 21, 2025, Asenso-Boakye stated that the government completed 13,624 kilometres of roads between 2017 and 2025, surpassing the 4,630 kilometres built by the previous administration.

He emphasized that the achievements encompassed more than just new roads, including 6,000 kilometres of gravel roads, 1,665 kilometres of reconstructed roads, major asphalt overlays in key cities, and 35 bridges.

These initiatives, he argued, are vital for rural connectivity and urban transportation.

Asenso-Boakye called for recognition of the comprehensive scope of the NPP’s infrastructure efforts, highlighting that road maintenance and upgrades are as significant as new constructions in developing Ghana's road network.
