Political scientist Dr. Richard Amoako Baah has spoken out. He is a former member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He urged former President Nana Akufo-Addo to take responsibility for the party's defeat in the 2024 elections.
In an interview on JoyNews' The Pulse, he placed blame on Akufo-Addo. He accused him of having too much control over party operations. This control contributed to the party's downfall.
Dr. Amoako Baah called for an apology from Akufo-Addo. He said, “Every step of the way, Nana Addo controls the party.” He described the defeat as colossal and insisted there should be no excuses.
His comments came after a committee submitted its report on the electoral loss. This report was given to the party’s national leadership on April 16.
He advised Akufo-Addo to step back from politics for now. This would allow the party to regroup without his influence.
Dr. Amoako Baah expressed disbelief at Akufo-Addo’s ongoing involvement in party affairs. He noted that his unpopularity could upset people and harm the party's image.
Meanwhile, NPP officials have stated they will not share details of their internal review into the election loss.
