Apostle Eric Nyamekye, the chairman of the Church of Pentecost, has refuted claims that clergy remained silent during Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo's presidency.
He clarified that many clergy actively engaged in speaking out and calling for changes to policies they deemed unfavorable under the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia-led government.
In an interview with Oyerapa TV during the inauguration of President John Mahama on January 7, 2025, Apostle Nyamekye accused the government of ignoring the clergy’s contributions, particularly concerning issues like the controversial E-Levy.
He explained that while the clergy shifted their approach to engaging with the administration directly, rather than through public criticism, their recommendations were often dismissed.
Despite their efforts to contribute to policy discussions, the government failed to heed their advice, leading to the current political outcomes.
