Eric Nartey Yeboah is the Greater Accra Regional Second Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He believes the party lost the 2024 elections due to centralized power under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
In an interview with Classfmonline.com, Mr. Yeboah explained that this concentration of power sidelined party leadership. He argued that decisions were made at the Presidency without consulting the party. This approach alienated key members from important decision-making processes.
Mr. Yeboah also pointed out that some presidential appointees contributed to the party's downfall. He noted their perceived arrogance and lack of respect for the party that supported them. For example, he mentioned Opoku Ahweneeeh Danquah’s appointment at the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC).
He claimed Danquah returned to London after the NPP lost power, showing a lack of commitment to the party. “These people did not help form the party but received important appointments,” he said.
Mr. Yeboah expressed mixed feelings about the defeat and emphasized rebuilding under current leader Stephen Ntim. He stressed that many appointees during Akufo-Addo’s administration ignored party principles.
“If things had been done properly, individuals like Ernest Owusu Bempah would not have been appointed as Deputy Director of Communications,” he stated.
He reiterated that it is now up to party leadership to restore NPP's strength before the 2028 elections. He urged supporters to distance themselves from appointees who acted against party interests under the National Democratic Congress' administration. They acted individually, not for the benefit of the party, he concluded.
