Akufo-Addo’s tax cuts unmatched in Ghana’s history – Gideon Boako

Dr. Gideon Boako, Member of Parliament for Tano North, has lauded the Akufo-Addo administration’s tax reforms, describing them as the most extensive by any Ghanaian government.

Speaking on Asempa FM, he recalled the March 2017 budget, which scrapped 17 taxes, reducing financial burdens on businesses and citizens.

Over eight years, he noted, more than 25 taxes were abolished, fostering economic growth.

However, Dr. Boako acknowledged controversial policies like the Electronic Levy (E-Levy), which he and former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia opposed since 2020. He maintained that the levy was unnecessary, just like the betting tax.

Despite fiscal challenges, he asserted that Akufo-Addo’s tax policies laid a solid foundation for long-term economic stability.
