A former Chief of Staff under President John Agyekum Kufuor believes former President Nana Akufo-Addo should take the blame for the NPP's defeat in the 2024 elections.
He argues that it makes sense to hold Akufo-Addo accountable. Reports and public sentiment suggest his government underperformed.
“That should be normal,” he said on JoyNews ‘The Pulse’ on April 29. “If we agree that the government didn’t perform well, he should take a lot of the blame.”
In response to claims that Akufo-Addo did not govern alone, Mr. Mpiani stated that if the administration had succeeded, he would have received praise.
“If he had done so well, Ghanaians would have praised us (NPP),” he said. “But if your administration didn’t do well, then he should take the blame.”
Mr. Mpiani expressed confusion over why Akufo-Addo seemed resistant to input from those he was elected to serve.
He was also surprised by comments from former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Dr. Bawumia claimed there were issues in the government of which he was unaware.
According to Mr. Mpiani, Dr. Bawumia was an active member of the administration and should have kept the party informed about these issues.
“Otherwise, we might have gone to the president and said, ‘This is what we are being told is happening,’” he added.
