Residents of Sekondi-Takoradi woke to surprising news on Monday, December 16, as the recently unveiled statue of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo near the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital was found vandalized.
The statue, inaugurated by the President himself, has sparked public debate since its unveiling, with critics questioning its relevance amidst unfulfilled government promises in the region.
Richard Kirk Mensah, NDC Western Regional Communications Officer, suggested the statue might be better placed in the President’s hometown, Kyebi.
The vandalism remains a mystery, with area vendors reporting the statue intact on Friday evening, December 13, only for it to be damaged by Monday morning.
While some residents initially supported the statue, the incident has deepened public discourse, with vendors like Nana Adwoa Banko expressing disappointment over the act.
