Mustapha Gbande, Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, criticized the Akufo-Addo administration. He claims it is responsible for Ghana’s environmental crisis.
On May 8, during an interview on Citi Eyewitness News, he spoke about this issue. Gbande accused the government of allowing forest reserves and water bodies to be destroyed. He said this happened due to poor regulation of mining activities.
He stated, “The degradation of our forests and water bodies was supervised by President Akufo-Addo.” He also mentioned that his Minister for Lands and other appointees were involved in illegal mining activities known as ‘galamsey.’
Gbande criticized regulatory institutions for not fulfilling their duties. He said they failed to supervise mining activities properly.
He compared the current government's approach to environmental protection with that of the NDC. He noted a significant increase in enforcement under NDC leadership.
“If we have come, and within four months you have seen military action against mining-related crime,” he said. “Then it tells you who’s serious about saving Ghana’s environment.”
