Dr. Jonathan Asante Otchere, a political analyst at the University of Cape Coast, has made a bold claim. He believes former President Akufo-Addo will be the most miserable ex-president in Ghana’s history.
Otchere cites the Professor Mike Ouaye report as evidence against Akufo-Addo. This report aligns with findings from Global InfoAnalytics. According to their data, 68% of respondents blame Akufo-Addo for the NPP’s defeat.
In an interview with Metro TV, Dr. Otchere stated, “I said that President Akufo-Addo would be the worst ex-president.” He emphasized that the Ouaye report strongly indicts him.
Dr. Otchere noted that about thirty percent blame Vice President Bawumia and forty percent blame Ken Ofori-Atta for the loss. He believes certain individuals within the government harmed the party but are not being held accountable.
He explained that Dr. Bawumia is trying to distance himself from Akufo-Addo. In his speeches, Bawumia is positioning himself as an independent leader. This is part of a political strategy.
These comments follow Dr. Bawumia's remarks about issues during Akufo-Addo's government that led to their electoral defeat in 2024. He mentioned hardship in the country and arrogance from his government as key factors.
Bawumia also criticized decisions like implementing the e-levy and failing to reshuffle ministerial portfolios. Speaking in Takoradi on April 26, he said these issues were major complaints among voters.
He lamented that despite promises, many Ghanaians faced hardships due to unfulfilled commitments by the government. Additionally, he pointed out a lack of development in regions where they traditionally received strong support.
As they approach the 2024 elections, Bawumia expressed concerns about unity within the NPP party.
