Alhaji Seidu Agongo donates ₵500,000 to MahamaCares

Alhaji Seidu Agongo, a businessman and philanthropist, has donated ₵500,000 to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, known as MahamaCares.

His donation came after President John Dramani Mahama launched the fund. The initiative aims to support people with chronic diseases like kidney failure, cancer, and heart conditions.

The launch event took place at the University of Ghana Medical Centre on April 29, 2025. During the event, President Mahama encouraged corporate Ghana to contribute. He emphasized that donations would benefit their clients and staff.

Mahama urged all companies to consider donating part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund. He believes this will greatly help those in need.

Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh stated that this initiative is long overdue. He noted it aims to ensure fair healthcare access for those facing financial barriers.

Akandoh mentioned that the draft bill for MahamaCares is ready for Parliament's review. He also highlighted that removing caps on national health insurance will provide more resources for the program.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of State for Government Communications, announced that President Mahama donated six months of his salary to MahamaCares. He shared this news on social media during the launch event.

Additionally, Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh pledged three months of his salary to support MahamaCares.
