The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has announced a major reform in Ghana’s visa processing system.
All visa applications will now be processed within five working days. This new policy takes immediate effect.
Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa made the announcement on his Facebook page on May 21, 2025. He explained that this decision addresses long delays in visa processing. Previously, it took four to six weeks on average.
“We have implemented measures at our diplomatic missions,” Mr. Ablakwa stated. “This will drastically cut down processing time to five days.”
He clarified that not every applicant will automatically receive a visa. Each application will receive a final decision within five working days of submission.
“A decision will be made within five working days regarding eligibility for a Ghanaian visa,” he added.
According to the minister, this initiative fulfills a commitment made by President John Dramani Mahama. During his inaugural address on January 7, 2025, the president declared that Ghana is open for business.
Mr. Ablakwa emphasized the Ministry's commitment to practical measures that reduce delays. “As Foreign Minister, I want to make Ghana more attractive for investors and tourists,” he said.
The streamlined visa process aims to support efforts to attract foreign investment and increase tourism. It also seeks to deepen international engagement.
“Ghana is truly open for business. Come enjoy the Black Star experience,” Mr. Ablakwa concluded.
