Sammy Gyamfi is the Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod). He is also the National Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He addressed public concerns about staffing changes at the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) on Channel One TV. This appearance was on Wednesday, April 23.
Mr. Gyamfi denied claims that experienced PMMC employees were replaced by unqualified recruits. He stated that no permanent staff members were affected by the restructuring.
“So far, I’m the only new employee of GoldBod,” he said. He explained that they are recruiting more staff to support PMMC.
Mr. Gyamfi acknowledged layoffs among contract employees at PMMC’s satellite stations. However, he insisted these layoffs were for operational reasons only.
“All permanent workers of PMMC are still employed,” he emphasized. The layoffs involved contract workers and those in outstations due to redundancy.
These staffing changes are part of broader reforms aimed at revitalizing Ghana’s minerals sector. The goal is to improve efficiency within institutions under the new GoldBod structure.
