The Majority Leader in Parliament, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, spoke about equal development. He believes all sectors of the economy deserve attention. Parliament is committed to ensuring accountability through its Committee system.
During a media engagement, Hon. Ayariga emphasized Parliament's role in holding the Executive accountable. This accountability mainly comes from the work of various committees.
He stated that every Committee must submit reports on their work. Regular monitoring and transparency are essential for effective oversight.
Parliamentary leaders answered several pressing questions from the media. These included concerns about MP attendance, transparency, and proposals regarding Supreme Court judges. They also discussed constitutional amendments and government business submissions.
Hon. Ayariga addressed climate change issues during the session. He mentioned Mr. Issifu Seidu's appointment as Minister of State for Climate Change and Sustainability. This shows the government's seriousness about climate issues.
He added that efforts are underway to adapt international climate policies for Ghana’s context.
Deputy Minority Leader Hon. Patricia Appiagyei responded to concerns about removing Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo. She clarified that this move was not meant to stall government business but to protect democracy principles.
