The Alliance of Drivers Ghana has announced a 20% increase in lorry fares, effective Monday, March 17, 2025, citing rising fuel prices and vehicle maintenance costs.
In a statement signed by General Secretary George Baffour Owusu Afriyie on March 13, the group highlighted a sharp fuel price hike from GHC12.99 to GHC16.23 per liter as a major factor.
Additionally, the rising cost of spare parts, vehicle engines, and engine oil has made operations unsustainable for commercial drivers.
The group stressed that as self-employed individuals, they struggle to support their families.
They urged passengers to understand the necessity of the fare adjustment, assuring that the move is vital to sustaining efficient transport services amid economic difficulties.
