Allow security agencies to do their work – Tanko- Computer to NPP over Wontumi protest

Rashid Tanko Computer, Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the NDC, spoke out. He urged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to respect the law. He emphasized that state security institutions should be allowed to do their jobs.

Mr. Tanko Computer made these comments on Joy FM’s Top Story on May 29. He stated that selective justice is over. All citizens must follow the law, regardless of their political affiliation.

He said, “We are in an era where the law is the law.” He added that being a party chairman does not exempt anyone from legal accountability.

His remarks came after NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako was arrested. Known as Chairman Wontumi, he faces allegations of causing financial loss to the state. The Minority in Parliament and party leaders protested at EOCO, seeking changes to his bail conditions.

Mr. Tanko Computer criticized this protest as hypocritical and lawless. He recalled how NDC officials faced arrests without similar protests during NPP's time in power.

He mentioned that under the NPP regime, NDC National Chairman Ofosu Ampofo was arrested without such outcry. “The Minority didn’t behave like this,” he noted.

Additionally, Mr. Tanko accused the NPP of trying to involve President John Mahama unnecessarily. He questioned why they were dragging the President into this issue.

“Is it the President who controls security agencies?” he asked. Mr. Tanko warned against politicizing lawful processes and highlighted questionable arrests during previous administrations.
