**Amewu Released After Arrest Over Sky Train Scandal**
Former Minister John-Peter Amewu has been released after his arrest. He was detained by National Security operatives on March 25, 2025. His arrest relates to the $2 million Sky Train Project from the Akufo-Addo administration.
Amewu is not alone in this investigation. Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi and former Minister Joe Ghartey are also involved. They have already been questioned regarding the project.
Citi News reports that this arrest is part of ongoing investigations into the failed initiative. The Sky Train Project did not achieve its goals despite the funding.
The Attorney-General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, confirmed he authorized Ameyaw-Akumfi's arrest. Under Ghartey’s leadership, Ghana signed a concession agreement with Africa Investment Sky Train Consortium in 2019. This agreement had an estimated cost of $3 billion.
However, the ambitious rail project never started. Concerns about its feasibility and financing were raised early on. In 2022, the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund revealed it invested $2 million in this project.
