Ameyaw-Akumfi Pleads Not Guilty, Vows To Clear Name In Sky Train Case

Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi is the former Board Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF). He recently spoke out after being charged over the failed $2.3 billion Sky Train project. He declared his innocence and thanked everyone for their support during this tough time.

In a statement on May 30, Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi confirmed he pleaded not guilty to all charges. He emphasized his commitment to transparency, accountability, and the rule of law. “I welcome the opportunity to clear my name,” he said confidently.

The former Minister of Education served under President John Agyekum Kufuor. He is among several former GIIF officials facing prosecution related to the Sky Train project. This initiative aimed to improve urban transport in Ghana but was shelved due to procurement and financial issues.

Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi mentioned that this experience has tested him but strengthened his belief in justice. “It has been challenging, but I am humbled by the support from across the country,” he stated.

He expressed gratitude to his family, friends, and legal team for their encouragement. Their support has given him strength during this ordeal. He also acknowledged political figures like former MP Kennedy Agyapong for their kindness during his legal challenges.

As court proceedings continue, Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi remains confident that truth will prevail and he will be vindicated.
