Amin Adam questions feasibility of Women’s Development Bank

In a recent statement, Amin Adam, the Deputy Minister of Finance, raised critical concerns regarding the viability of establishing a Women’s Development Bank in Ghana. Speaking at an event organized by the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Adam emphasized the necessity for thorough evaluation before moving forward with such an initiative. He acknowledged women's significant contributions to economic growth but pointed out that creating a bank exclusively for women might not be practical given existing financial institutions.

Adam argued that instead of establishing a separate entity, efforts should focus on enhancing access to funding for women through current banking systems. He suggested that addressing issues like collateral requirements and interest rates could effectively empower women entrepreneurs. The deputy minister's remarks reflect broader discussions about gender equity in finance and the importance of integrating women's needs into existing financial frameworks rather than creating isolated solutions. As Ghana continues to explore avenues for fostering economic growth among women, Adam’s insights underscore the need for strategic planning and collaboration with established financial institutions.
