An indelible blot on our democracy – Atik Mohammed slams National Security

Political analyst Atik Mohammed has condemned a raid by National Security operatives. He described it as unlawful and unprovoked. The raid targeted the home of Superintendent Yakubu Issahaku, former Aide-de-Camp to ex-Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

In a statement to Asaase Radio, Atik shared disturbing details. He alleged that security officers forced their way in by destroying the main gate. They also broke down bedroom doors and ransacked the house. Even a private prayer area, a mini mosque, was not spared. They seized a hard drive containing CCTV footage.

Atik denounced what he sees as increasing lawlessness under national security operations. He stated that this behavior must stop and citizens' rights should be respected. He noted that Issahaku's only "crime" was serving as ADC to the former Vice President.

He warned that such actions could undermine Ghana’s democratic principles. Atik emphasized that no one is above the law in Ghana. “Ghana is governed by law, not by men,” he said.

These troubling developments tarnish Ghana's image as a thriving democracy. The incident has sparked discussions about national security's role in civilian affairs, especially regarding law enforcement personnel.
