Annoh Dompreh claims Wontumi is on hunger strike amidst EOCO detention

Frank Annoh Dompreh, the Minority Chief Whip and MP for Nsawam-Adoagyire, has made a claim. He says Mr. Antwi Boasiako, the NPP's Ashanti Regional Chairman, is refusing to eat. This protest is against his detention conditions. Dompreh calls this hunger strike a desperate measure due to “shocking” treatment by EOCO officials.

His comments follow a protest by the Minority caucus and NPP supporters. They gathered at the EOCO office on Thursday. They demanded a review of bail conditions and the immediate release of Chairman Wontumi. Wontumi has been in custody for over 48 hours.

The NPP members argue that the GH₵50 million bail sum is excessive and unfair. They insisted on staying at EOCO headquarters until Wontumi was released but left after three hours.

In an interview with JoyNews, Mr. Dompreh expressed his shock at the bail conditions. He criticized EOCO officials for denying legal counsel access to Mr. Antwi Boasiako. He stated, “Even in a murder case, the suspect’s legal counsel is allowed access.”

The MP believes this situation is a deliberate strategy to persecute Mr. Antwi Boasiako. He claims it violates principles of justice and fairness.

Dompreh also mentioned that the detained chairman has refused to eat as part of his protest. “He has refused to eat and is therefore on a hunger strike,” he said.

Despite no official communication, Dompreh confirmed that Mr. Antwi Boasiako received medical attention at the NIB Clinic.
