A netizen has reacted to IMANI's petition to CHRAJ. The petition calls for an investigation into the Electoral Commission led by Jean Mensa.
Social media influencer Joshua Buernortey Boye-Doe, known as Kalyjay, commented on this. He mentioned that another demonstration is planned. In a post on X, he wrote, "Another demo loading hahaha."
His comments follow protests by the NPP and other parties. They are demonstrating against the suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo.
IMANI alleges that the Electoral Commission breached laws in selling electoral equipment. On May 6, 2025, Franklin Cudjoe signed a petition claiming the EC mismanaged state assets during Ghana’s economic crisis.
The petition states: “This morning, I directed IMANI to file a complaint with CHRAJ.” It highlights constitutional and statutory breaches related to a scandal involving electoral equipment sales.
IMANI argues that such conduct cannot be tolerated during a fiscal crisis. They believe the EC's actions show a conflict of interest and potential corruption.
The organization claims the EC is trying to erase inventory records and evidence of falsehoods about expensive equipment purchases. They argue this approach aims to suppress accountability amid scrutiny from civil society activists.
IMANI states that public resources should not be abused for private gain. They assert that the EC's actions violate standards expected from such an important body.
CHRAJ has agreed to investigate the Electoral Commission’s conduct regarding election-related equipment disposal.
