Kweku Ansa-Asare, former Director of the Ghana School of Law, has raised concerns. He warns of a potential “power vacuum” in Ghana. This situation arises from the absence of the President, Vice President, and Speaker of Parliament. He spoke during an interview on Citi Eyewitness News on May 13.
Ansa-Asare's comments follow criticism from the Minority Caucus. They condemned what they see as a violation of the 1992 Constitution. He stated that if the President and Vice President are absent, protocols must be followed.
He explained that if both leaders cannot perform their duties, the Speaker should step in. If the Speaker is also unavailable, other constitutional measures must be activated. Without these steps, he believes there is a legitimacy crisis in government.
The Minority Caucus issued a statement on May 12 criticizing the government's actions. They highlighted Article 60 of the Constitution regarding presidential succession protocols. Ansa-Asare supports their concerns about neglecting these procedures.
