Kennedy Agyapong, a former MP and NPP flagbearer aspirant, has raised concerns. He claims anyone who supports him is under threat.
His comments follow the stabbing of a student at Kwame Nkrumah University. This incident occurred during the NPP Thank You Tour.
Agyapong stated he joined Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for unity. However, he feels unwelcome in the party.
He told Metro TV, “I’m withdrawing because anyone who supports me is under threat.” He added that they will regroup and return later.
Agyapong explained his decision to withdraw was to protect his team. He said, “I don’t think I can adequately protect my team.”
He also mentioned that some groups from Bawumia’s camp want him to speak but twist his words. He urged NPP members to avoid one-sided politics.
Agyapong declared his intention to campaign for the flagbearer position. “Nobody can stop me from contesting,” he asserted.
Reports indicate the stabbed student is affiliated with Unity Hall (Conti). He was hospitalized after being stabbed multiple times during the tour at Bantama.
The victim was part of a group hired by Agyapong called Jama Group. Eyewitnesses reported an altercation between this group and gunmen suspected to be NPP members.
Gunshots were fired during this confrontation, resulting in one member being stabbed. The injured member was rushed to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for treatment.
It has been alleged that the stabbing stemmed from a disagreement among party members. Agyapong has filed an official complaint with the Ghana Police Service regarding the incident.
Currently, there have been no arrests made by the police in connection with this case.
