The Enchi District Magistrate Court will announce a verdict on April 23, 2025. This is in the case of Ruth Arthur, also known as Amina. She is accused of destroying and setting fire to her ex-lover’s property in Amonie, Aowin municipality.
Ruth Arthur is a 36-year-old trader. She previously pleaded guilty to unlawful entry, causing damage, and stealing. The court, led by Mr. Lawrence Buanor-Buer, granted her bail of GH¢30,000 with two sureties.
General Sergeant Stephen Offei Asante led the prosecution. He stated that David Anni, also known as Nana Atopah, is the complainant. David is an Okada rider who lives in Amonie.
The prosecutor explained that Ruth and David were in a relationship for two years. Their relationship ended after the death of their two-month-old child. Ruth's family opposed their companionship, leading to their divorce.
On March 3, 2025, at around 7:10 AM, David was at a wedding when he received a call from his friend Akwasi. Akwasi informed him that Ruth had broken into his room and set his belongings on fire.
David rushed home upon receiving the call. He found that Ruth had forcibly entered his room. When he checked for his GH¢22,000 cash, it was missing.
The prosecutor reported that Ruth damaged several items. These included a 32-inch Hisense flat-screen TV and a Binatone standing fan. She also destroyed Sony speakers and a double-bed mattress.
In total, the damages amounted to GH₵27,019.00. The police accompanied David to the crime scene after he reported the incident.
During their inspection, they found some personal effects partially burnt along with a mattress. When questioned by police, Ruth admitted to committing the crime in her caution statement.
She has since been charged and brought before the court for trial.
