Apologies don’t cure misconduct – MP lashes out at Mahama over Gyamfi dollar gifts

Dr. Tiah Abdul-Kabiru Mahama, the MP for Walewale, criticized President John Dramani Mahama. He accused the President of valuing personal loyalty over constitutional duty. This criticism follows the "Dollar Cash Saga" involving Sammy Gyamfi, the Acting CEO of Goldbod.

In an interview with Starr News, Dr. Mahama condemned the President's acceptance of Gyamfi's apology. Gyamfi was seen on camera giving U.S. dollar bundles to evangelist Nana Agradaa. Dr. Mahama stated that this response is legally insufficient and shows selective accountability in government.

“An apology does not remedy this violation,” he said. “The Code of Conduct breached by Mr. Gyamfi does not allow apologies to replace legal penalties.”

He added that the Minority is not surprised by this situation. It highlights the type of leadership currently in place. The President has taken on a role as a ‘clearing agent,’ which he previously accused his predecessor of being.

Dr. Mahama expressed disappointment over the President prioritizing Gyamfi over national laws. He reminded that when taking office, the President swore to protect the Constitution and uphold the law. “Personal loyalty cannot come before national legal obligations,” he emphasized.

He concluded that the President must respect and enforce the laws of Ghana, as required by his constitutional duties.
