Application to stop removal of IGP, other security heads moot — Supreme Court

The Supreme Court has scheduled its judgment on the matter for May 7, 2025 The Supreme Court has scheduled its judgment on the matter for May 7, 2025

The Supreme Court has dismissed an injunction seeking to prevent President John Mahama from removing former Inspector General of Police (IGP) George Akuffo Dampare and other security agency heads.

In a ruling on March 25, 2025, a five-member panel led by Justice Paul Baffoe Bonney held that the injunction could not restrict the President from performing his administrative duties.

The application, filed by Imani Ghana and security expert Prof. Kwesi Aning, aimed to delay the removal of security heads until a final ruling on a case questioning the President’s authority to dismiss them.

The substantive case, filed last year, seeks clarity on whether such removals require proven misconduct.

The Supreme Court has scheduled its judgment on the matter for May 7, 2025.
