The Appointments Committee of Parliament has discharged social media activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor of all allegations after he issued an unqualified apology.

Barker-Vormawor had earlier alleged on social media that ministerial nominees were being asked to pay bribes for approval.

In his controversial post, he questioned whether such payments were exempt from Ghana’s anti-bribery laws.

His remarks prompted intense scrutiny, leading to a tense engagement with the committee.

Following deliberations, and with the intervention of his counsel, Nana Ato Dadzie, Barker-Vormawor apologized under oath.

Committee Chair Bernard Ahiafor subsequently discharged him, instructing him to delete the post and issue a disclaimer.

Meanwhile, MP Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor had earlier urged the committee to refer the matter, arguing that it was beyond their constitutional mandate to handle Barker-Vormawor’s case.
