“Are we fighting to regain our forest and river bodies? Aluta Continua” – Catholic Archbishop

John Bonaventure Kwofie, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, has questioned President John Dramani Mahama. He asked if the country is truly fighting to regain its forests and rivers.

The Catholic Archbishop noted that public patience is running thin regarding galamsey. He also referenced the President's May Day address during his comments.

Archbishop Kwofie expressed concern about the government's commitment to ending environmental destruction from galamsey. His remarks followed Mahama’s statement that fighting illegal mining is complex.

Mahama claimed his government is determined to combat this issue. He praised the Armed Forces and security services for their efforts against selfish companies involved in galamsey.

During a homily at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Parish in Accra, Kwofie said, “Is that make-believe talk, or will you take it seriously? We want action.”

He emphasized that it’s not too late for the President to declare an end to galamsey. “Galamsey is a complex war,” he acknowledged, but added that complexity cannot excuse inaction.

Kwofie urged visible efforts against galamsey. He reminded everyone of Mahama's May Day address about the readiness of armed forces and security services.

“Are we fighting to regain our forest zones and river bodies?” he asked. “Aluta Continua,” he concluded, reinforcing his call for action against illegal mining.
