Minister Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah has urged the Lands Commission to improve its image. He wants the Commission to overcome public perceptions of corruption. This call came during his visit to the Commission’s head office in Accra.
Buah emphasized the need for commitment and excellence. He noted that public mistrust has been a long-standing issue. "I expect the Lands Commission to align with the government's agenda," he stated.
He highlighted values like timeliness, dedication, and integrity in public service. With the right mindset, he believes they can transform their image.
The Minister also stressed the importance of digitalizing processes. This change would help address corruption concerns and improve transparency. It would also streamline service delivery.
Buah assured staff that their remuneration packages would be reviewed. "Motivated staff produce results," he said, emphasizing better working conditions.
A major challenge discussed was the lack of a national base map. This absence limits the Commission's ability to fulfill its mandate effectively. The Minister mentioned that $165 million is needed for mapping efforts.
He pledged to work with the Ministry of Finance for funding support. "We will pursue this agenda together," he added, encouraging immediate improvements within their control.
Deputy Minister Yusif Sulemana urged management to meet their mandates effectively. Executive Secretary Mr. Benjamin Arthur briefed Buah on strategic goals and ongoing digitalization efforts.
Arthur echoed concerns about operational limitations due to missing maps. The visit concluded with a tour of facilities and interactions with staff at the National Data Center.
Buah’s visit aims to position the Lands Commission as a trustworthy and efficient institution for national development.
