Armah-Buah lauds IGP for helping to fight galamsey

Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah is the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources. He praised the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, and the Ghana Police Service. Their efforts against illegal mining activities have been commendable.

Buah spoke at the Global Mining Summit on June 2, 2025. He emphasized the important role of police and security agencies in fighting illegal mining, known as galamsey. They also work to protect Ghana’s water bodies and forest reserves.

He noted that the Ghana Police Service has shown strong commitment recently. Under IGP Yohuno's leadership, they confront illegal mining directly. Collaborative operations with other security institutions have produced significant results.

In Samreboi and nearby areas, a special Anti-Galamsey Taskforce has made notable seizures. They have confiscated over 100 excavators, bulldozers, weapons, and chanfang machines. Many arrests have been made, with suspects facing legal action.

Similar operations occurred in other illegal mining hotspots across several regions. These include Ashanti, Eastern, Western, Central, and Upper West Regions. The Ghana Police Service recently reaffirmed its dedication to fighting illegal mining.

Their statement highlighted collaboration with key stakeholders for resource preservation. This effort aims to ensure environmental sustainability in Ghana. The Minister concluded by urging continued cooperation among agencies and public support for the anti-galamsey campaign.
