Security analyst Anthony Acquaye has advised the Minority in Parliament. He urged them to update their understanding of arrest laws. This includes the use of arrest warrants.
Speaking on Accra 100.5 FM, he explained that arrests can occur without a warrant. This is true under specific circumstances. He mentioned cases where individuals were invited by security agencies and later arrested.
His comments followed claims from the Minority. They alleged that the National Bureau of Investigation (NIB) tried to unlawfully arrest Rev. John Ntim Fordjour. Fordjour is a Member of Parliament for Assin South and serves on the Defence and Interior Committee.
Recently, he claimed there are money laundering and drug trafficking activities at Kotoka International Airport involving private jets. Mr. Acquaye suggested that Fordjour's refusal to cooperate with security officials indicates he lacks evidence for his serious claims.
He condemned the MP’s actions as damaging to Ghana's international reputation. "Unproven allegations can have dire implications for Ghana," he warned. Such claims could lead to international scrutiny, embargoes, and loss of investment.
Mr. Acquaye noted that the NIB's attempt to arrest Fordjour at his Sakumono home was unsuccessful. He encouraged the agency to formally invite him to provide proof of his allegations.
He emphasized resolving this matter quickly to avoid reputational and economic harm to Ghana.
