Asantehene reaffirms commitment to peace in conflict-hit Bawku

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is committed to peace in Bawku. This area has faced long-standing chieftaincy-related conflicts. His pledge comes during a pause in peace negotiations. These delays are due to the complex nature of the disputes in the Upper East Region.

Despite these challenges, Otumfuo remains hopeful. He believes ongoing mediation will lead to a peaceful resolution. He shared his thoughts during a visit from a UK delegation at Manhyia Palace.

Otumfuo emphasized the connection between peace and development. He highlighted the important role of traditional leaders in maintaining stability. “We need peace to develop,” he stated.

He added that it is their duty as traditional leaders to ensure community peace. When conflicts arise, they intervene to resolve issues. This allows the government to focus on development efforts.

Regarding the Bawku conflict, Otumfuo mentioned recent clashes in northern Ghana. These incidents have occurred near the Burkina Faso border. He assured that efforts are underway to restore and maintain peace in the region.
