Asantehene to lead critical Bawku peace talks in Kumasi today

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, will resume mediation today. This is for the two factions involved in the Bawku conflict.

President John Mahama has reaffirmed support for the Asantehene's efforts. He aims to restore calm and unity in the region.

On April 15, Otumfuo announced mediation sessions from April 28 to May 1. These will take place at Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.

These meetings are crucial for resolving the Bawku disturbances.

Security Analyst Colonel Festus Aboagye (Retired) calls for broader support. He emphasizes the need for multi-track diplomacy to strengthen peace efforts.

In an opinion piece, Colonel Aboagye urged national stakeholders to help with mediation. He suggested including diaspora leaders, youth influencers, and women’s peacebuilding networks.

He believes a multi-faceted approach could lead to a sustainable resolution.

Colonel Aboagye proposed supporting Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s mediation through this approach.

He warned that traditional diplomacy alone may not heal deep divisions.
