Asantehene to resume Bawku mediation efforts on April 28

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, will resume mediation efforts. This is for the ongoing Bawku conflict.

His announcement follows President John Mahama's recent assurance. The peace process led by the Asantehene will continue to restore calm.

On April 15, the Asantehene confirmed mediation sessions. They will take place from April 28 to May 1 at his palace in Kumasi.

The statement from Manhyia said, "His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II will resume mediation of the Bawku crisis." The sessions are agreed upon with both parties involved.

The Palace urged all stakeholders to cooperate fully. Their goal is to achieve lasting peace in Bawku.

"Asantehene requests all stakeholders to cooperate for lasting peace," it added.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II was appointed last year by former President Akufo-Addo. He leads the mediation process aimed at resolving tensions in Bawku.

This call to resume talks comes after renewed conflict. It has claimed the lives of two police officers and affected healthcare delivery.

The upcoming sessions will involve key leaders from both factions and other stakeholders.
