The Ashanti Regional branch of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has made serious accusations. They claim the Ministry of Health is trying to sabotage their planned strike. This interference includes undue influence on member unions.
The GRNMA has refused an invitation to meet with the Minister of Health. This refusal shows their determination to proceed with the strike.
Philmon Adu Brempong is the First Deputy Chairman of the GRNMA in Ashanti Region. Recently, four key nursing and midwifery unions withdrew support for the strike. This decision raised allegations of government interference.
At Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi, nurses and midwives are protesting. They wear red armbands to highlight delays in addressing their concerns.
Philmon Adu Brempong spoke to JoyNews about his frustration. He believes the Ministry is trying to weaken their advocacy for better working conditions. He urged members to stay united and committed to the strike until their demands are met.
JoyNews' Hannah Odame visited health facilities in Accra during the strike's start. Some nurses wore red armbands, while others did not participate in the protest.
