A High Court in Kumasi has dismissed a petition from the National Democratic Congress (NDC). The NDC aimed to overturn the 2024 parliamentary election results in three constituencies.
The NPP won in Ahafo Ano South West, Obuasi East, and Ahafo Ano North. The NDC claimed its candidates were the rightful winners despite official recounts. They insisted on reversing the results due to alleged irregularities.
The NPP's legal team argued that the NDC's petitions were flawed. They noted that the NDC failed to request security for costs within 21 days after the results were published. This is a mandatory requirement under electoral law.
The court ruled that the petitions lacked procedural merit and dismissed them. It also imposed financial penalties on the NDC. They must pay GHC10,000 for Ahafo Ano North and GHC30,000 each for Ahafo Ano South West and Obuasi East.
Shadrach Obeng Yeboah, representing the NPP MPs, expressed satisfaction with the ruling. He stated it was a victory for his clients and for justice overall. He added that they were pleased their applications had been granted.
