Statistics from the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) show alarming figures. In the Ashanti Region, 127 people died in road accidents from January to February this year.
Mr. Kwesi Agyenim Boateng, the NRSA Regional Manager, shared these statistics. He emphasized that such loss of life is unacceptable.
He spoke to reporters during the launch of 'Kwansodwoodwoo.' This event was organized by AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) Obuasi Mine and its partners. The launch took place on the Dadwen-Kwapia stretch of the Obuasi-Anwiankwanta highway.
The partners include DVLA, National Ambulance Service, Safety Campaign Ghana, Fire Service, and Police MTTD. Mr. Boateng urged road users to follow traffic rules to prevent accidents.
Mr. Edmund Oduro Agyei, Community Relations Manager at AGA, explained the program's purpose. It aims to help prevent road accidents during the Easter holidays.
He encouraged passengers to speak up if drivers are speeding. They should feel empowered to ask drivers to slow down.
Mr. Samuel Kwamena Eyeson from Safety Campaign Ghana stressed driver fitness. Drivers must ensure they are healthy and not under the influence of drugs.
Mr. Edwin Happy Ofori, Obuasi DVLA Manager, added important advice for drivers. They should check their vehicles' condition before any journey and rest when tired.
