Residents of Asikam, in the Kwahu East District, are frustrated. The Forestry Commission's Mpraeso office seized wood meant for repairing the Asikam D/A Basic School roof.
The school’s roof was damaged in a storm two weeks ago. The community mobilized resources for urgent repairs. They received support from residents and a local benefactor donated an odum tree.
Despite their efforts, work stopped when officials seized the wood due to regulations. Now, pupils cannot return to class as the school is unfit for use.
Mr. Omari Sampson Asiedu, a Unit Committee member, expressed disappointment. He called the seizure a major setback for children's education.
Nana Ntim Boateng I, Chief of Asikam, seeks immediate help from local authorities. He has appealed to MP Dr. Bryan Acheampong and District Chief Executive Samuel Asamoah to mediate.
The chief also urged the Forestry Commission to reconsider its decision. He emphasized the community's pressing educational needs.
Parents and residents share these concerns. Their main goal is to ensure children can learn safely again. They are asking authorities to allow roofing work to continue without delay.
