Former Deputy Attorney General Diana Asonaba Dapaah has expressed concerns. She is worried about the Council of State's decision regarding Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo. This follows leaked documents from private citizen Daniel Ofori, Senior Police Officer Ayamga Akolgo, and the civic group Shining Stars of Ghana. They petitioned President John Dramani Mahama to remove the Chief Justice.
On Channel One Newsroom, Dapaah discussed parts of these petitions. The petitions claim that the Chief Justice violated natural justice rules in a recent Supreme Court ruling. Dapaah believes the Council's reasoning for its decision is fundamentally flawed.
She is particularly troubled by the nature of the complaints used for further action. "The alleged petition by the saviour group stems from a Supreme Court decision," she said. "I feel troubled for the other judges who sat on that panel."
Dapaah also questioned another petition from a police officer who is also a lawyer. She noted issues with the evidence presented in that case. "He allegedly uses evidence from a news platform to claim that the CJ caused his arrest," she stated.
In conclusion, Dapaah rejected the Council’s decision completely. "I have no doubt that finding a prima facie case is unconstitutional and wrong," she asserted.
