Assemblyman Leads Rescue of 25 Kidnap Victims in Effiakuma
Hamza Mohammed Ameen Adam, the assembly member for Effiakuma Zongo, led a rescue operation. This operation saved 25 people believed to be kidnapped in the Western Region.
The police have identified five suspects linked to this crime. The incident became known after one victim escaped on June 1. This victim, in his twenties, fled to Effiakuma Zongo and sought help from a trader.
He spoke French while asking for assistance. The assemblyman was notified and quickly organized a rescue team with local residents.
The victim guided them to an eight-bedroom apartment near Takoradi Technical University. They found the main entrance locked but managed to break in. Inside, they discovered the victims looking weak and pale.
Among the victims, six were female. They could not confirm how long they had been held captive.
Police believe many victims are from neighboring Côte d’Ivoire. During initial questioning, they identified five suspects based on information from the escapee. These suspects have been detained as investigations continue.
