President John Dramani Mahama has taken action against government appointees. They failed to meet the March 31 deadline for asset declaration.
The president ordered these officers to forfeit four months of their salary. They must donate this amount to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund.
All government appointees were already required to commit one month of their salary. This new action means they will now lose four months' pay.
Minister Felix Kwakye Ofosu announced this via a Facebook post on May 5. He warned that defaulters have until the end of the next day to comply or face dismissal.
“President Mahama sanctions appointees who defaulted on asset declaration by March 31,” Mr. Kwakye Ofosu posted. “They must forfeit four months' salary and donate it to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund.”
He added, “All defaulters have until tomorrow to declare their assets, or they will be dismissed.”
The Ghana Medical Trust Fund (MahamaCares) helps individuals with chronic diseases across the country.
