The Ashanti Regional Caucus of the Association of Health Service Administrators, Ghana (AHSAG) recently held a workshop. This Continuing Professional Development (CPD) event focused on preventing medical negligence. The rise in medicolegal issues in healthcare facilities was a key concern.
Medical negligence is a significant problem in Ghana. Many patients suffer harm due to inadequate care or errors by healthcare professionals.
Participants included Health Service Administrators from various health facilities. These included those under the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG), teaching hospitals, and private institutions. They learned best practices to avoid institutional liability and improve patient care.
The workshop took place at the Presbyterian Hospital in Agogo. Rev. Ezekiel Amadu Daribi led the event as General Manager of Asante Akyem Area Health Service. He is also the National President of AHSAG.
Rev. Daribi encouraged members to show Godly leadership and commitment in their work.
Lawyer Francis Kwaku Acheampong facilitated the workshop. He urged participants to prevent medical lawsuits against their hospitals. He noted that surgical errors and misdiagnosis are increasing.
Managers must ensure compliance with GHS regulations and Teaching Hospitals Act 525, Section 30, he said.
Mr. Roland Welaga Miah, Municipal Director of Health at GHS, emphasized collaboration between directors and administrators for quality service delivery.
Kuupil Benjamin, Ashanti Regional Chairman of AHSAG, expressed excitement about the knowledge shared during the workshop. He urged members to follow the advice given for better practices.
