Attempts to remove Chief Justice premeditated – Oppong Nkrumah

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah is the MP for Ofoase Ayirebi. He is also the Ranking Member of Parliament’s Economy and Development Committee. He recently spoke about the ongoing efforts to remove the Chief Justice. He described these efforts as political and pre-planned.

On JoyNews’ AM Show, he stated that the Chief Justice would defend herself. However, he emphasized that this issue is more political than legal.

He criticized those who claim the process follows Articles 146 or 147 of the Constitution. “Anyone saying this is Article 146 or 147 is either complicit or naive,” he said.

Mr. Oppong Nkrumah argued that the plan to remove the Chief Justice was deliberate and premeditated. “This was premeditated, preannounced, and preadvertised,” he asserted.

He referenced comments made by President John Mahama when he was in opposition. Mahama suggested a plan to change the judiciary's composition to favor the NDC.

“There are clips of now-President Mahama announcing their intention to appoint more NDC members,” Mr. Oppong Nkrumah noted.

He also mentioned that members of the opposition attacked the judiciary during that time. “They extensively criticized the Chief Justice and Supreme Court while in opposition,” he added.

Recalling his experience during the 2020 election petition, Mr. Oppong Nkrumah shared his observations as part of the NPP’s legal team. He witnessed public attempts to discredit the Chief Justice on social media.

“I saw all sorts of names being thrown at her, linking her to the NPP,” he said.

He believes that from the start, it was clear why they wanted her removed. “If this were not true, people might think there’s an innocent constitutional process happening,” he explained.

In conclusion, Mr. Oppong Nkrumah warned about using legal procedures to disguise a political agenda. “What we see is a planned exercise using legal processes as cover,” he stated.

He believes many are not fooled by this tactic and cautioned about future consequences from these actions.
