Private legal practitioner Kwame Adofo has criticized the Attorney-General. He opposes the decision to hold a press conference about an uncharged suspect. Adofo warns that such actions could harm legal proceedings.
Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show, Adofo highlighted risks to judicial fairness. He noted that media coverage can prejudice cases, especially in jury trials.
“If you prejudice the case in the media, the risk is very high,” he said. Jurors may form opinions before hearing evidence. They might think, “This guy must be guilty.”
Adofo explained that public belief in a suspect’s guilt creates problems. If a court rules not guilty, people may view it as unjust. “You understand the risk?” he asked.
He stressed that the Attorney-General's comments could shape public opinion unfairly. This could also impact other legal cases negatively.
“Look, they are entitled to complain,” Adofo stated. He would have complained if his client was described similarly by the Attorney-General. He believes this behavior is improper and should stop due to serious risks for other cases.
