About 40 Assembly Members in the Atwima Mponua District have petitioned President John Dramani Mahama. They want him to nominate Sakina Oforiwaa as the District Chief Executive (DCE).
The Assembly Members say the delay in appointing a DCE has hurt governance. It has also affected development projects and administration at the Assembly. They believe this leadership gap is slowing down progress in the district.
Atwima Mponua District and Asante Mampong Municipality are still without nominees. This follows a recent announcement of MMDCE appointments across the country. Out of 43 Assemblies in the Ashanti Region, 41 have had their Chief Executives nominated.
A petition dated May 9, 2025, was signed by over 30 Assembly Members and appointees. It states that Sakina Oforiwaa is the preferred candidate among three contenders for DCE. Support for her nomination has now grown to 40 Assembly Members.
They describe her as a unifier and development-oriented leader fit for the role. Salifu David, an Assembly Member from Ananso Electoral Area, praised her integrity and commitment. He noted that she has supported community progress beyond party activities.
Sakina Oforiwaa has helped provide motorbikes to assist Assembly Members with their duties. The NDC Young Cadres in Atwima Mponua have also joined the appeal for her nomination. Isaac Ampaabeng, their Communications Director, urged President Mahama to consider her for DCE.
He emphasized that Sakina can help bring development to the district. Without her appointment, they fear progress will slow down significantly.
Sakina Oforiwaa is a teacher and former Assembly Member for Adobewura Electoral Area. She has been active in political campaigns for two decades within the NDC party. Her roles include serving as NDC Branch Secretary from 2000 to 2008 and being part of various committees.
She was also TEIN President at Wesley College of Education from 2012 to 2013. Currently, she serves on several NDC committees and was a parliamentary candidate aspirant in 2019.
