The Auditor-General will soon submit an interim audit report. This report will address outstanding contractor claims. Once submitted, it will trigger government payments.
Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson shared this information during a meeting. He met with Ecobank Group CEO Jeremy Awori to discuss the issue.
The government inherited contractor arrears of GH¢67 billion. It has committed to auditing and settling these debts over four years. The 2025 Budget allocates GH¢13 billion for clearing verified claims.
The Finance Minister emphasized the need to avoid new arrears. He mentioned recent amendments to the Public Financial Management Act. These changes aim to improve discipline and transparency in procurement and contract management.
Ecobank, as Ghana's largest financial institution, was encouraged to support economic recovery. This includes focusing on private sector development and agriculture.
Jeremy Awori, Ecobank’s CEO, expressed the bank’s commitment to Ghana’s recovery efforts. He is ready to increase lending and cooperate strategically with the government.
The meeting also included John Abdulai Jinapor, the Minister for Energy and Green Transition.
